Barefood selalu berhasil mengecoh saya. Ya, saya memang orang-orang pertama yang menulis tentang Barefood, bahkan pernah pula memainkan mereka di gig besutan saya, ketika Barefood belum mengeluarkan rilisan resmi. Namun saya tidak pernah menyangka kalau mereka bakal sebesar ini.
Lalu ketika Barefood mengeluarkan debut EP, Sullen (2013), saya juga tak menyangka kalau rilisan tersebut bakal direspon sedemikian masifnya di lokal.
Sekitar awal tahun 2012 vokalisnya pernah menawarkan ke saya, agar musik Barefood bisa dirilis via WRR dengan format split-album dengan Vague (kalau tidak salah). Namun saat itu tidak langsung saya respon, karena masih ada beberapa agenda yang harus dilunaskan. Menyesal tidak rekrut Barefood? Tidak sama sekali. Justru bangga sama Barefood, karena musik yang bagus pasti akan menemukan jalan keluarnya sendiri.
Percepat beberapa tahun. Ketika dikasih dengar bocoran materi debut album penuh Barefood, saya terkecoh lagi. Karena perkiraan saya Barefood akan melakukan pengulangan di Sullen dan tetap bermain di zona aman mereka.
Di Milkbox terasa sekali progres dan kematangan dari Barefood. Semuanya, mulai dari: penulisan lagu, aransemen, penulisan lirik, hingga ke beberapa eksperimentasi di studio yang mereka lakukan. Semuanya dilakukan di luar zona aman Barefood, tanpa harus kehilangan identitas mereka.
Tidak, saya tidak akan mengulas banyak album yang sedang kalian pegang ini. Justru kalianlah yang harus mengapresiasi Milkbox dengan cara masing-masing.
Dan… Ya, saya [berusaha untuk] tidak akan terkecoh lagi oleh Barefood.
